Saw your post on the newbies forum and thought I'd say hi. I'm a writer and pretty new to this as well. I was a bit worried about dA being too picture based but then I realised I could use them to decorate my site and illustrate my stories so it's all good!

It's hard to get known on DA. . . It takes a while to get a few watchers and then momentum starts to build up.
It's also hard to get literature looked at on DA. . . It tends to suit visual arts better. People see thumbnails and click on them if they're interested. . . Far fewer people will click on a lit tag and read a poem. . . Don't get discouraged if few people read your work.
Put a few photos of beautiful women and more people will start watching you! That's the reality.
